Bulletproof

It recently dawned on me that we do not have one single room in our house that is bullet proof. That's a frightening thought, isn't it? You never really know when you are going to need a good, bullet proof room, or one that has a filtered air supply, and purified water, and walls lined with lead. It's important to have a place like that with all the crime these days, not to mention "them". You know, those "they people" who are out to get us. Everyone knows about the conspiracy, don't they?
One night, while thinking about the big bully bad guys out to get us, it dawned on me that we need a bullet proof room in our house. I told my wife and she just shook her head. I even had an idea how we could do it, but she just rolled her eyes and walked away. Sometimes I don't understand her. Surely I jest, or do I?
I do not share in the paranoia and hysteria that permeates the minds of conspiracy theorists. I do not believe there is a secret, government plot to get me? Not personally, anyway. I do not believe there are covert activities to induce mind control or disease on the populace even though some interesting activities have been documented by observant citizens. I suppose chemtrails, ELF, black helicopters, UN control of the U.S. and the like are possible, but why? What purpose would it serve? What would a handful of people do with over two hundred million diseased robots?
There isn't enough military personnel in this country to effectively enforce martial law and no other nation is going to dedicate their armed forces for a joint endeavor. They can't even take care of their own countries. How would they manage a New World Order? In case you haven't noticed, most countries can't get along with each other, let alone join together for a common cause. Okay, maybe we have NATO, SEATO and a few other wiggling toes, but that means little. The U.N. is too busy saying, "Can't we all just get along" to take over a nation as large as the U.S. So, if there is a conspiracy, what's the prize?
I live in the country and let me tell you, if anyone tried to take over, these rednecks out here would stomp a big mud hole in their plans. Gun racks come as standard equipment on pickup trucks out here. Did you ever see the movie, "Red Dawn"? I know people who would put the Wolverines (the film's youthful freedom fighters) to shame. The best laid conspiracies of mice and men usually disintegrate in the face of country justice. I'll duck until it's over because someone's gonna get a swirly and jiggling the handle won't help.
As if there aren't plenty of things to think about already, some people seem to prefer conspiracy theories because they distrust our government. They think our government performs human experiements to test the effects of drugs, radiation and mind altering methods. Okay, well maybe the U.S. government HAS violated the Nuremberg Code for medical ethics and done a few (thousand) experiments on human subjects, but that doesn't mean they are doing it now, does it? Everyone is entitled to a few (thousand) mistakes(s).
Here is more information on that topic. It's good reading whether you believe in that sort of thing or not.

Search Google for more examples.
Maybe human experimentation is not a good example. Let's move on, shall we? Regarding chemtrails, why would the government spend a bazillion dollars spreading a mind-control fog that drifts aimlessly through the clouds? Wouldn't it be easier to simply put chemicals in the water like the CIA did in an experiment in 1968? They already put flouride in the water, don't they? They might be putting other things in there as well. How about a little RU-486 or maybe some hallucinogens? I wouldn't worry too much about that. The government is not that diabolical. In fact, the CIA tests in the '50s showed that chlorine counteracted the effects of LSD tainted water so they developed a more resistent variation. I am sure they threw that research away. Maybe this wasn't such a good example either...
Do you see how easy it is to let your mind wander when you distrust others? Twinges of paranoia undermine peaceful thought.
The Internet is a'buzz with talk of the New World Order, government takeovers, mind control, and everything points to the anti-christ. Paranoia is rampant in our society and it sifts into the church. Sadly, a large percentage of conspiracy theorists are professing Christians. In fact, the FBI's report for Project Megiddo has much to say about Biblical interpretation that might threaten the government's activities. The text is an interesting read. Here's an excerpt to whet your appetite.
"Religiously based domestic terrorists use the New Testament’s Book of Revelation -- the prophecy of the endtime -- for the foundation of their belief in the Apocalypse. Religious extremists interpret the symbolism portrayed in the Book of Revelation and mold it to predict that the endtime is now and that the Apocalypse is near."
Did you catch that "Religious based domestic terrorists" classification? How about the one about "Religious extremists"? Go read the entire text. I'm sure you'll feel much better.
Granted, I learned a few unsettling facts while researching information for this message, but I am not running to bullet-proof my room (yet). I do not fear the effects of ELF radiation on my brain and if the government wants to peek inside my mind, they are welcome to it. I've been in there and believe me, it isn't pretty. I need to get a maid in there to tidy up before we have company. Yes, I believe what is written in the book of Revelations, and am considered a conservative Christian. If that puts me on some government list as a subversive, I'll have to live with that. Based on the new order defined in the Patriot Act, maybe I should be a bit concerned, but I'm not because I have work to do. Worrying about what may never happen takes too much time and energy. Worrying about what might happen no matter what we do is pointless. If something is outside our circle of influence, it should remain outside our circle of concern.
There is always a real chance that we will be persecuted for our beliefs. Try as we may, we cannot legislate that threat away. In fact, the scriptures tell us that is exactly what will happen before the Lord returns. Whether it be the U.S. government or some rising dark star from the Middle East that will threaten our religious freedom, there is no reason to allow paranoia to seep into our lives. Fear breeds emotional and spiritual paralysis. Those who live in fear are doing little to further the cause of Christ in the world because they are too busy worrying about "them" and the end of the world as we know it. The end will come, but probably not the way many people predict.
In the meantime, keep feeding the hungry, healing the sick and saving the lost. If you simply cannot do that, the next time you see jets spreading a mind-altering mist across the sky, look to the heavens, take a deep breath and keep digging that bunker. Let me know when it is ready and I'll bring a few friends by for a nice, long visit. You do have satellite television, don't you?

Under Attorney General Janet Reno's leadership, the FBI issued a report warning of Y2K violence from Christian or conservative groups. It categorized certain undesirable factions of our society who posed a threat to the government. Here is one such category and it's members.
Hate Group Ideology
o Explicitly racist; considers people of color to be subhuman. Homophobia has recently been added to their agenda.
o Often blame the federal government, an international Jewish conspiracy, and/or communism for most of this country's problems.
o Some groups include apocalyptic Christianity in their ideology and believe we are in, or approaching, a period of violence and social turmoil that will precede the Second Coming of Christ.
This is the same Janet Reno who, in 1993, spearheaded a siege on a religious facility in Waco, Texas, where all members were killed and the facility was burned to the ground. To date, not one federal agent has faced punishment or reprimand for the death of the innocent men, women and children. President Clinton dismissed the fire, saying a "bunch of religious fanatics murdered themselves".
It may happen again someday. There is nothing you can do to stop this from happening to your church or ministry. Keep your head down and get back to work. |
