Expecting Different Results

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A couple on a low-carb diet was kicked out of a buffet restaurant after the manager said they'd eaten too much roast beef.
Sui Amaama, who along with his wife have been on the Atkins Diet for two weeks, was asked to leave after he went up to the buffet at the Chuck-A-Rama in suburban Taylorsville for his 12th slice of roast beef. That's right, his 12th slice.
Amaama is one of the hundreds of millions in this world who keep doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.
"It's so embarrassing actually," said Isabelle Leota, Amaama's wife. "We went in to have dinner, we were under the impression Chuck-A-Rama was an all-you-can-eat establishment."
Isabella and her husband missed the point. While they were embarrassed that they were asked to leave a restaraunt, they should be more embarrassed that he went back for 12 servings.
I am not here to debate the health issues surrounding the Atkins diet. I'll leave that up to your physician. I do, however, question the logic in expecting to lose weight while eating 12 servings of anything. It stands to reason that this couple needs to be on a diet if they think nothing of going back for 2nds, 3rds, 4ths...12ths.
A diet is a change in eating habit with the end result of a change in weight. This couple changed their diet to eliminate carbs, but missed the fact that their their weight problem just might be caused by their overeating. Ya think?
They say that anyone who keeps doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results has a learning disability. Okay, maybe 'they' don't say that, but I do. Christians, like anyone else, sometimes keep doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results in their spiritual walk. We cannot keep choking down serving after serving of the same carnal diet and expect to have a deeper walk with the Lord. We can't keep watching the filth on television or carry on the same sinful conversations with friends and expect God to bless us. We cannot disrespect our spouse or our parents and expect God to respect our committment to Him. We cannot hold back on our tithes and offerings and expect God to increase our possessions. We camp on the scripture like
Matthew 21:22
And whatever you ask in prayer, if you believe, you will receive.
And...
1 John 5:14-15
5:14 And this is the confidence that we have before him: that whenever we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
5:15 And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.
We forget James 4:2-3 or verse 6. Look those last scriptures up yourself.
We secretly believe they apply to other people, but could not possibly apply to us. Why is that? The Atkins diet concentrates on drastically lowering your intake of carbohydrates with the promise of weight loss. The books and articles don't tell you that if you have virtually no carb intake, your body will eventually harvest nutrition from your muscles, which is a bad thing.
Unlike the Atkins diet, there are no ill side effects from a steady diet of prayer and reading the scriptures. Others will, however, notice a change in your spiritual outlook and approach to life.
How about you? Do you keep expecting a miracle or blessing, yet keep doing the same things over and over again. Maybe it is time to change what you are doing and align your actions with the scriptures. We need to do our part before expecting God to do His, right? Rather than trading carbohydrates for 12 helpings of roast beef, trade your television time, or whatever, for time in the Word. After all, no one ever got thrown out of a church for reading too much of the Bible.
Make the change today and expect different results tomorrow. You'll have a new spiritual physique before you know it.
