Right to Carry

The state I live in justpassed a "Right to Carry" law. This means that eligible andqualified citizens can purchase a permit to carry a concealed firearm. Immediately after the law was passed, hundreds of people enrolled in themandatory firearm safety courses, forking over hundreds of dollars to learn howto keep from hurting themselves and others. The concept is simple. Don't point the bangie end at anything you don't want to kill. I know, Iknow, there is more to it than that, but not much. After people startedtaking the safety courses, the state supreme court struck down the law and sentit back for revision. Apparently there was some unacceptable wording thatcould cause problems in the future. The main thing that could causeproblems is all the people carrying guns when they shouldn't even be trustedwith a sharp Crayola.

Proponents to laws of this nature are eager to fire off loads of statistics that show crime rates have fallen where these laws have been passed. I suppose that could be true if criminals stop to think you might be carrying a gun before they try to rob you...in public. It has always been legal to have a gun in your home for protection. Some states allow you to carry them in your car. The "Right to Carry" laws allow you to carry a concealed weapon in public. Stop and think for a moment about the kind of people you run into in a mall parking lot or on the highway or in the parking lot of a sport's stadium. Now imagine these people carrying guns. It's spooky, isn't it?

We didn't have this much crime when I was younger and I would venture to say we wouldn't have it today if Christians exercised their "Right to Carry" the Word of God, something they have had for a long time. This right is protected by law and you don't even have to take a Bible safety course or be registered. There is no one that should be prohibited from carrying a Bible, concealed or out in the open. If you are hesitant and anyone comes to mind, would you rather see that person carry a Bible or a gun? Kinda makes sense doesn't it?

Psalms 119:11 says, "In my heart I store up your words, so I might not sin against you." Maybe it's time to reveal our concealed sword and carry it out in the open. Preaching the Word will stop others from sinning and turn them to the Lord. Stopping them from sinning makes more sense than figuring out a way to protect yourself when they do.

Exercise your right to carry God's Word today.

I'm not wanting to start a debate about whether "Right to Carry" laws are good or not.
I'm making a point that we should exercise the rights we already have to carry God's word.
