Luke 12:54-56
12:54 Jesus also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A rainstorm is coming,’ and it does.
12:55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and there is.
12:56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how to interpret the present time?

People think they are pretty smart. Everyone does. They believe that their own logic is infallible. They believe they have a grip on their surroundings and are able to second guess the majority of troubles that come their way. It's a survival mechanism that we all have, or at least...well, we believe we have it.

When we don't have enough information to plan for the near future, we look to experts who also believe their logic is infallible. That's where we run into trouble, because people are not as smart as they think they are. Perhaps you are feeling the pain and embarrassment of misplaced faith.

A person on television tonight predicted that gas will reach $5 per gallon by the end of the summer. Robert Hirsch, an energy adviser predicts the price of gas will be $12-$15 in five years.

On May 6th, the government presented this projection.
Quote:
The projected prices for crude oil in 2008 will result in higher prices for all petroleum products. Regular-grade gasoline is expected to average $3.52 per gallon in 2008, or 71 cents above the 2007 annual average price. The monthly average regular-grade gasoline price is projected to peak at $3.73 per gallon in June.

They also stated that oil would average $110 per barrel in 2008 and $103 in '09. Last week, oil was in the mid $130's.

Oops! Predictions have been inconsistent and now the entire country is overcome with reality.

In your wildest dreams, did you ever think you'd be paying $4 for a gallon of milk? Food prices have skyrocketed around the world and famine is predicted to affect millions if we cannot get runaway inflation under control. They are even rationing rice in Israel.

Anyone who has been half watching the news is amazed at the number of devastating earthquakes around the world. Hurricanes and cyclones are killing hundreds of thousands and displacing millions and as if the natural disasters aren't enough to create problems, we decided to pollute our water supply with toxins, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals. We are splicing human and animal DNA. Scientists have even mixed human DNA with rice...and we wonder why the bees are disappearing.

Global calamity is the new black.

The Scriptures tell us that the last days will be filled with tremendous calamity. We read the warnings of social upheaval and how the earth will come apart at the seams. Read Revelation to see what happens to the food and water supply. Read and see how the people will be affected by governmental decree and manipulation. It's here. The rapture hasn't taken place yet and if you were hoping that you'd be gone before things got REAL bad, you might want to readjust your expectations because things are bad and getting worse every day. Many Christians never thought they'd witness such calamity firsthand, but reality always has a way of challenging our doctrine long before it does our faith, but many will fall away when calamity strikes and their faith is based on their wishful doctrine.

Provers 27:12
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

You did unload that gas guzzling SUV before the price of gas shot through the roof. didn't you? You do have some food put aside, right? You didn't build your house on a known fault line, prone to earthquakes, did you?

How you are living today and the plans you have made for tomorrow will determine if you will be considered a wise or foolish virgin.

Keep your lamp trimmed and filled with oil. It's liable to be a long, dark night.
