When I Said I Do

Our anniversary was on the 21st of December. I wonder what couples do when they don't celebrate any occasion other than a Biblical holiday, no birthdays, no anniversaries. Do they think the celebration of a blessing is a sin My wife and I are just common folks. Some would consider us poor. We didn't go anywhere special on our anniversary, no gifts, but we remembered it just the same and I don't see how that could be a sin. Perhaps the abstinence camp could produce some Scriptures to validate their chosen practice.
I remember the day I said, "I do," to the lovely woman who is now my
wife. It was during an ice storm and we weren't even sure if the
pastor was going to show up or not. While some superstitious
individuals have considered than an omen, I believe it shows our deep
commitment and determination. Obviously, we have had our share of ups
and downs, but who hasn't, and I never regret for one moment, marrying
her, nor can I imagine what life would be without her, although that
day is approaching sooner than we had hoped.
Are we married in the after-life, as the Mormon commercials on
television state? [shaking head] I don't see how, being that we are
the bride. The Scriptures don't say anything about a marital
relationship after death no matter how you spin it. We are eternal
beings temporarily assigned to a physical realm, but marriage is more
than a physical bond or commitment. Consequently, we wonder if the
spiritual commitment of marriage is everlasting, in the strictest sense
of the word, and if so...or if not, what's the harm in celebrating the
one we love? The answer is nothing, and those who abstain from any
celebration other than a Biblical one ought to consider if their
marriage was Biblical or not, and if not, why not?
There are a lot of things I do not know and more that I do not
understand, but this one thing I do know and understand, I love my wife
and have every reason to celebrate our union any time I think about it,
for to abstain from such would be to trivialize the blessing Yahweh has
given.
