War On?

It is chic these days to declare war on something, anything, so long as it isn't a tangible enemy.  Cities declare war on crime, there is a war on drugs, North Korea is waging a war on long hair, Montana has a war on weeds, Denmark joined the war on Apple [computers], South Park declared war on Scientology, bloggers declare war on comment spam, Lyndon Johnson declared war on poverty, the Taliban supposedly waged a war on women, Microsoft declared war on bugs, there is a war on AIDS, a war on corruption, a war on Christmas, and a war on pornography.

President Bush declared a war on terrorism, or is that a war on terror?  He can't decide.  Writers even mix the two in the same article, but one thing is certain, they are careful not to declare a war against terrorists, because those people are real, even if they are not regionally situated.  Still, some people think he did

Here is a reminder for you vocabulary buffs.  You don't declare a war on anything.  You declare a war against someone.  You don't wage battle on someone, you wage battle against them.  A war would be on the ground or in the air, but against a nefarious, tangible foe.

It is all so very confusing when someone declares war on something that they cannot define. It is easy to position yourself as a valiant warrior against a behavior, or a societal trend, because those things cannot be addressed on a tangible plane without addressing morals and ethics. It is more politically correct to say, "We will fight what you do," than to say, "We'll fight you because we think you are ungodly."

There is no war on terrorism, or terror, or poverty, or drugs or AIDS, or corruption or (pick your favorite flavor).

There is a war against your soul, but beyond that, these people are posers. Ask yourself, what do they have to gain if they cannot win an ethereal war against an intangible enemy? Money, power and attention are the rewards for these fighters of the wind. They gain power by taking it away from others. The same holds true for power and attention. They shed the blood of countless thousands who do not bend a knee to their self-proclaimed superiority and divine leadership.

Yeshua never exhibited behavior like these political leaders. Why are you following them?

"Because thou didst keep the work of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that hour which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. I come quickly; hold fast that which thou hast, that no one take thy crown" (Revelation 3:10-11).

There is no war on anything except your soul. The others are lies and distractions.
