For years, the topic of the separation of church and state has been loudly debated. Unfortunately, most of this debate has taken place in the churches in the form of preaching instead of constructive negotiation. Pastors rant against the evil tendencies of the government to strip the name of the Lord from courthouse walls, the pledge of allegiance and the face of our coins. They talk of how Madeline Murray O'Hare was successful in getting prayer removed from the schools. They complain when Christians are refused the use of public buildings for religious meetings. They believe the government is becoming more and more anti-Christian. They are quick to quote Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and anyone else they can think of to prove that the forefathers of the United States intended this to be a Christian nation. Most of the arguments are woefully lacking, with good reason. - Topic: Miscellaneous
