On The Frontlines

Monday, May 27, 2002 (10:18:07)
Missionaries Martin and Gracia Burnham were kidnapped on May 27, 2001, from a resort off the island of Palawan in the Philippines.  They continue to be held hostage by members of the Abu Sayyaf Group. Martin grew up in the Philippines, where his parents have been missionaries for more than 32 years.

Anniversaries are important to kidnappers and terrorists.  One complete year has passed since the Burnhams were kidnapped.  We watch closely as this date passes.  There is still no news of their release and very little news of their well-being.  Please continue to pray for Martin and Gracia and their families.

It is easier to serve the Lord from the safety of our own communities.  The only threat we face is the drive to and from church.  Some leave that safety for service on the frontlines in other countries or hostile environments.  There is always risk when you are serving the Lord in another country.  That risk increases dramatically when you are ministering to a group who has strong beliefs opposing yours.  At Gentle Ministries, we work with people who speak many languages and serve the Lord in other countries.  As members of the Family of God, remember that others need your support and prayers.  If the devil went hunting today, would you be a worthy target or would he pass you over for more valuable prey? Serving God makes you a target.  The Burnhams stand as a tribute to ultimate service in the Lord. Keep them always in your prayers. Go here for more information.
