I came across a Christian website today that troubled me. It had content similar to what could be found in a pornographic magazine or web site, but they were justifying their presence in the Name of the Lord. What conversationcould not somehow be justified with scripture was labeled "scientific". They were not preaching the Gospel. The entire focus of the site was about sex. The FCC fined Howard Stern $600,000 for discussing similar content on his radio show.

I would never discuss what was on that site with my children. The content would almost be embarrassing to share with my wife. On the site, they answer explicit, personal questions posted "anonymously." They even posted a step-by-step, how-to guide for the new groom. The only thing missing were pictures, but they weren't necessary. There are 1-900 numbers you can call to have someone recite similar verbage to you over the phone. Last, but not least, they had a small bookstore. Some books were written by well-know Christian authors. Others should only be sent, wrapped in brown paper. If they made a movie of this website, you would have to go to a seedy part of town to see it. Can we then justify it's public existence by putting the name of God on the site? Does content of this nature truly give glory to God or is it an invitation to temptation? When we focus our entire public presence on a particular topic, we come under the scrutiny of Christians and unbelievers alike. Especially when the topic carries so many warning labels in scripture. The site content would never be allowed on a billboard beside a highway. Everything that Jesus said can be put on a billboard. Everything that Paul said can be put on a billboard. Everything your pastor preaches can be put on a billboard. Heb 13:4 Let marriage be had in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. "let the bed be undefiled" Just don't expect me to put up a website and talk about mine. Explicit how-to guides are not something Christians should be publishing to the anonymous world. Yes, Paul mentioned the words marriage and bed in the same sentence. He also followed up with a stern warning before the period in that sentence. He did not continue to discuss the mechanisms of personal activities. In fact, you cannot find similar content in the entire Bible, which is our blueprint for Christian behavior. You will be known by the way you present yourself to others. Remember that the world looks at things a little differently than Christians. Make sure you avoid the appearance of evil. Make sure that others see your behavior as holy. I am sure the world would not view that website as being holy. Some would call me a prude. Just remember that "prude" is the root word for prudent.
