Daily Walk: Imagine . . .

Tuesday, December 10, 2002 (07:29:21)
Imagine if the labourers were not few in your town, but many. People sneer at the lone evangelist on the corner obeying Mark 16:15. "Huh, another Jesus weirdo." A solitary fireman trying to stop the crowd heading for the flames. That’s generally the status quo.

Ah, but imagine the lone street preacher becoming two, four, eight, sixteen - almost one for every corner.

Now picture a different scenario in towns across Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, the world! Imagine hundreds of Christians downtown wearing Jesus Saves badges. Dozens more handing out tracts. Each time Alan and Agnes Atheist go for a drive, Christian bumper stickers challenge them. More surprises. Around the bend is another outreach - a group of Christians - and further up the road another. More in the city mall. "Hmmm, there must be something in this Jesus business," Agnes Atheist mutters. She shops at the supermarket and T-shirted Christians are everywhere. "Gimme a tract," she demands. What an effect. Revival! What an impact on society there’d be. We’d have a different world! Now the crowd is heading away from the flames because thousands are giving warning. Can you see it, brother, sister? Imagine it. Every church full. Pubs half empty, racetracks too. The Lotto poorly patronised. Drug pushers penniless. No need to lock the house. Crime plummeting. Security guards unemployed. Burglar alarm sales down. Penitentiaries becoming housing estates. Christian TV shows at peak times instead of violence, obscenities and sex. Schools clamouring for scripture teachers. Christian bookshops needing extra staff. Churches building huge tanks for baptising new converts. Satan fuming! Far-fetched? No, it could happen. What is required? Prayer yes, but above all —action. Getting into the community with the message. Change in attitude and priorities. A massive rethink about what constitutes "church." Bible colleges getting in line with the Book of Acts. Evangelism No 1 on every church’s priority list. Believers able to picture the lake of fire and millions going into it—then wanting to do something about that. Ministers abolishing church socials that have no bearing on the world outside. Can you catch the vision? Let’s make it happen.
