Stolen Identity

Thursday, March 21, 2002 (22:12:10)
I am probably the most private person you will ever meet. I am about as close to the perverbial hermit as you will find. I have an unlisted phone number. I have a post office box. I drive a beige car. Living in a cabin in the woods is something that REALLY appeals to me.

My friends know how closely I guard my anonymity. They respect my privacy and I respect theirs. They will not even use me as a job reference unless I give them explict permission to do so. Some have even apologized for asking. This comes from my extensive experience of people abusing my privacy. I am not paranoid. I mind my own business and expect others to do the same. Tonight, I discovered that someone has sold my identity. This is not a joke. I am VERY serious. You may have read about this sort of thing or seen a television show about it. Trust me, this is real. Examples of this privacy violation are becoming painfully evident. Mail addressed to me is being sent to the homes of family members and friends. A piece of mail addressed to me was even sent to a store where I shop. Someone knows who I am, who my family members are and even places that I frequent. I am not happy at all. In fact, at this point, I am pondering ways to bury myself deeper. Spammers violate your privacy in email. Salesmen interrupt your dinner with annoying phone calls. Total strangers knock on your door, trying to sell you siding or new windows for your home. The newspapers and television report on the love lives of movie stars, politicians and priests. The tabloids will show you doctored photos of Michael Jackson marrying a gorilla or the Pope slapping a child. Someone, somewhere will believe it. We live in a violating society. People want to know every move you make, your every financial transaction and even your eating habits. Hidden cameras a everywhere and phone conversations are monitored. Marketing knows no bounds. We no longer have to worry about a nosey neighbor. Even the phone company is selling information about you. It's true. Ask them and they will tell you. There was an article in our local newspaper about this two days ago.

I am not yet sure to what steps I will take to protect my privacy. I do know that I definitely will not publicize them. Is this sort of thing covered in the Bible? Everything is covered in the Bible. Psalms 11 1 In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? 2 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. 3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? 4 The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. 6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. Read verse 3 again. "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" The foundations of our society are being destroyed. We all know that. Christians everywhere are asking "What can I do about it?" They shrug their shoulders, shake their heads and feel helpless. Why? Because, on their own, they are helpless. Brothers and sisters, the Lord is in His holy temple! What would you do if someone were abusing one of your children? Imagine what punishment awaits those who mess with you. I am a child of the Most High God? The blood of Jesus Christ flows through my veins. This situation will not consume me. This is God's problem to deal with. Not mine. I have work to do. Praise God!
