Devotionals: Joy In Justice

Thursday, October 03, 2002 (01:00:00)
We were navigating our way through a crowded parking lot in search of a place for lunch. The other lane was blocked up ahead and a pickup truck pulling a beautiful new boat was in our lane, headed straight for us. Realizing his predicament, I stopped to let him pass. As he went by, I smiled and waved. He looked straight ahead, never acknowledging my act of kindness. My feathers ruffled, I watched in the rearview mirror as he rudely drove away.

Shortly thereafter, I heard a horn honk and looked into my mirror again. The driver of the truck was honking at a tractor trailer that was trying to back out of an alley. He didn't see or hear the pickup truck and backed into the new boat. The driver of the pickup truck jumped out and began SCREAMING at the driver of the big rig. I smiled and drove on...

It has taken several weeks for me to see the error in my heart and realize that I was wrong in how I felt.
Why do we take pleasure when we see "justice" dispensed? When cars recklessly speed by us on the highway, do we hope a policeman is over the next hill?
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6:8
I felt the driver of the pickup truck received justice. But I was not loving mercy, nor were my thoughts humble.
We pass off everyday occurrances like this. God is interested in ALL of our thoughts and deeds.
I guess it took some time for me to learn from the parking lot incident.
Thank you Lord for taking the time to show me that you want ALL of my heart.
