Our lives are wrapped in legislation. Our paths are guided by rules and regulations. Sometimes it doesn't seem to be enough. When you are in school, you take Driver's Ed' classes and learn how to drive a car. Then you take a test. If you pass the test, you pay a fee for your driver's license. You buy a car with government approved safety equipment like bumpers, seatbelts, airbags, safety glass, etc. You pay another licensing fee for tags for the car so you can drive it on the street. In most areas, you also pay a property tax simply because you own the car.
You buy liability insurance to cover damage you may cause others. You buy comprehensive and collision insurance to cover damage caused to you. You buy health insurance in case you hurt your body. And finally you buy life insurance in case all of the other precautions fail. What starts out as a learning experience turns into a self-defense lifestyle. Why? This last winter, in Kansas City, MO, a small snow storm was blamed for a 24 vehicle collision that left 10 people dead and 42 injured. Through the course of the day, in all, 11 people were dead and 108 were injured. The government and car manufacturers had done everything in their power to protect these people from themselves...and others. That was not the first time Kansas City received snow. I am sure this is not the first time these people had driven in snow. What went wrong? People. That is what went wrong. Though he may try, man cannot legislate "smart" or "wise" or "love" or "joy" or "peace" or "longsuffering"... God doesn't seem to have these sorts of problems. Or does He? He did not legislate virtue. He legislated obedience and made a provision for those who failed. Virtue comes to those who live for Him. These are "fruits" of the Spirit. Compare them to the ruddy fruits of the world and the decision is clear. Galatians 5:19-23 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
No wonder man's legislation fails. Look at the competition. - Rod All contents Copyright (c) Rod Use without permission is prohibited
